A new halves pairing for the Eels with Dylan Brown suspended and Mitchell Moses suffering a calf injury. Dean Hawkins wears the No.7, while Joash Papalii slots in at five-eighth. Getting through the Origin period and time without Moses seriously hampered Parramatta in 2024. Brown, who departs at the end of the season on a $13 million deal, failed to fire in the No.7 jersey, while Daejarn Asi and Ethan Sanders tried and were unable to deliver alongside him. However, Jason Ryles went about shoring up his halves ahead of the 2025 season, signing Hawkins, Papalii and Ronald Volkman. Moses is now set to be sidelined for four weeks, but Brown will be back after his suspension. However, in the short term Parramatta fans can have confidence their depth can stand tall during this period, unlike in years gone by. Hawkins in particular has been impressive, recording a four try assists in his last outing against the Sea Eagles. Papalii meanwhile, has shown glimpses of talent in his three appearances off the bench, but gets his first start in the halves in Round 16. Meanwhile, Zac Lomax has been named and only an injury will stop him from suiting up for the Eels while Wiremu Greig makes his first NRL appearance since Round 24 of the 2024 season.

Des Hasler has named Origin duo Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and Moeaki Fotuaika on the bench for their Round 16 clash, hoping his stars will be able to back up. David Fifita has been named at 18th man as he eyes a return from an ankle injury. Brian Kelly has been dropped for Jojo Fifita who also returns from a hand injury.
