‘Why wouldn’t I?’: Shock reveal over Warriors star’s links to rebel league as another star on hit list

Warriors gun Roger Tuivasa-Sheck’s manager has confirmed the star winger is weighing up accepting a multimillion-dollar move to join rebel rugby union competition R360.

Rugby 360 have reportedly offered him a contract valued at nearly $1 million per season to make the move in 2027, with his New Zealand contract expiring in 2026.

His current deal is worth a reported $550,000 and now Tuivasa-Sheck’s agent Bruce Sharrock has opened up on his client’s stance.

“We’ve explored what is a developing competition called R360,” Sharrock said to the SMH.

“It’s been in the making for 12-18 months. Roger comes off his current NRL contract in 2026, and as part of that planning, I threw this in front of him and asked if he had any interest in this option.

“He said ‘why wouldn’t I?’ I’ve always encouraged all my players to look at all options, and that’s where we are at right now.

“The relationship that I hold with every club, and the Warriors in particular, transparency is key. They are aware that it’s an option that we’re genuinely looking at.

“That’s not to discount that we could look at an extension with the Warriors or another rugby league side, for that matter. It’s part of our process.”

At the age of 32, it may be too good an offer for Tuivasa-Sheck to ignore.

The 2018 Dally M Medallist left the NRL in 2022 to play two seasons with Super Rugby franchise the Auckland Blues, but came back to the NRL last year.

Knights gun Kalyn Ponga has also reportedly been targeted by R360 alongside Storm star Ryan Papenhuyzen, while a fresh face has emerged as a potential rugby recruit.

Dragons enforcer Jaydn Su’A is the latest NRL gun who has come in the sights of French and European rugby according to Code Sports.

The 27-year-old has another year remaining on his current contract, with an option in his favour for the 2027 season, meaning he could be available for the start of the rebel competition.

Su’A has a background in rugby union, having played at Anglican Church Grammar School alongside Ponga.

The Maroons representative has been one of the Red V’s most consistent performers in recent years, and Shane Flanagan will be desperate to retain his services.

However, as it stands, Su’A will be able to negotiate for the 2027 season come November 1 this year if he doesn’t take up his player option.
